Training Review - Week 30 - July 21 to 27

Monday I decided that I didn't have it in my legs to bike to and from swimming on top of the fairly fast swim session that was on the plan. So instead I went for a quick run round the block. Nothing serious but slightly faster than planned. Then at swimming it was a really tough session. 5x150m at 750m pace with 30 second rests and total for reps came in at 12:24, way under my target pace for this year. Then 10x75m with 10 second rests, this time the total for all 10 reps AND the 9 rests came in at 13:26. Only 7 seconds off the pace I raced at last week, despite 90 seconds of resting built into it. Actual swim pace would be under 12 minutes. A minute under my target race speed for the year. I can definitely do a sub-13. Hopefully I will manage to get it into Inverurie this weekend.

Tuesday, I went out for the same bike ride as last week. Only this time we took it as an interval session with some attacks on Strava hills. Having run a day early and now cycled a day early I have front-loaded my week again. A couple of Knockburn laps on Wednesday and a run on Thursday should give me Friday and Saturday to rest before racing.

Wednesday we finally managed to go Dolphin hunting. Visiting 48 dolphin sculptures in nearly 10 hours was a lot more tiring than expected. Ended up exhausted, and it took a lot longer than planned so I didn't have any chance to get my outdoor swim in this week. Was worth it though for an awesome day out and some fab art work. This is my favourite one:

Although I could have picked any one of about 20 to claim as my favourite. Krista was third from last, so in addition to being pretty one of the prettiest she was also a sign that we were going to manage our challenge to visit them all in one day.

Thursday, I was a lot more tired than I expected to be. I did go out for a run but it was very hot and very slow. I wasn't going to manage the 5 miles that I need for this week so I will need to do about a mile warm up and warm down at Inverurie on Sunday.

Friday I was struggling with a really tight hamstring. I did a longer stretching and rollering session.

Saturday was a rest day. Hamstrings were still bugging me.

Sunday was Inverurie Traithlon, which will get a race report to itself.

Another good week overall. A little bit short on my planned miles for run and swim but only by small amounts. Excellent race on Sunday, race report to follow.
